At a meeting last week, Dr. Frank, who was addressing all the graduating seniors and their parents, spoke about the importance of uniformity. However, he made a mistake and said that “graduation is the only time students are equal.” Although he may have meant that it is the only time when students look the same, his wording highlights a bigger issue. There is a tendency to prioritize some students over others, evident in the lack of individualism due to strict dress codes or the preference for athletic students over those in the arts.

During this year’s graduating students and family meeting, Dr. Frank went on a tangent about graduation attire. To the disappointment of many, he expressed that there will be no decorating of people’s graduation caps.
