Bear Necessity Theatre Company holds spring play auditions every year. In the past, auditions followed a similar format consisting of cold readings and callbacks. However, this year, there will be a significant change in the audition process.
This year, students auditioning must come prepared with a 1-minute monologue in a comedic or dramatic style. Compared to past years, this has students doing much more preparation than previously. Memorizing and working on a monologue can take time. Additionally, prospective cast and crew will fill out a digital application instead of the typical paper packet.
For some, this may be a source of anxiety. However, there is an optional audition workshop on February 22nd to help better explain these changes and allow students to prepare for the February 28th auditions.
Featuring a new yet familiar face, Laurel Grosz will be directing the production. Ms. Grosz has previously engaged with Palmer Ridge during her semester student teaching with the drama teacher, Mr. Josh Belk, as a part of her teaching degree.
Ms. Grosz, a recent graduate of The University of Northern Colorado as a Theatre Education major, is currently a drama teacher at Evans Elementary School in Colorado Springs.
In the last three years, BNTC has had three separate directors for their spring production. But, students are ready to welcome change with open arms.
