On Friday, March 17, the Palmer Ridge High School Student Council hosted their first annual Make-A-Wish Scavenger Hunt! This activity, provided as an outlet for PRHS students to have fun and explore the areas of Palmer Lake and Monument, was also paired with a silent auction in the gym, from prizes like a haircut at the Rocky Mountain Barber Shop to an acclaimed top lot parking spot for students at Palmer Ridge.

With twelve groups in total, the grand prize of free Chick-Fil-A for a year was anyone’s game. Students were given a list of fifteen riddles, describing various locations around the Tri-Lakes Area for students to explore. By taking a picture in the right location with all members of the group, students would earn points that would go towards their overall score. From the wind sock on Mt. Herman Road to the lake at Fox Run Park, students were driving all over the place, hoping to get the right answer to the riddle in their picture.

The winners, Ben Homan (12), Emily Miller (12), Hannah Miller (12), Katie Miller (12), Katie Valdois (12), and Grace Weitzel (12), had a perfect score to take home the grand prize, not missing a single riddle.

This event, serving to close out a successful Make-A-Wish Week, was only one a few events held by PRHS, with a GIve-Back night at Lolley’s Ice Cream in downtown Monument and the annual Mr. PR pageant held in the auditorium to raise additional funds. This year’s Make-A-Wish kid, David, had a wish to install a sports court at his home, allowing him to continue to play the sports he loves.

After an abundance of positive feedback, the PRHS Student Council hopes to repeat this activity again for next year’s Make-A-Wish Week, with harder riddles, and a ton of eager students!
