Review

Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) was brutally attacked and left for dead, all because of his shoe preference. In an attempt to piece together his past and present, Mark created a town called Marwen; in which he lives as Captain Hogie, a WWII fighter pilot. There, the women of Marwen protect Hogie from the Germans who are constantly after him.

I think this movie was beautifully done. The casting of Steve Carell as Mark Hogancamp was fantastic; he fit the role perfectly. This movie is based off a true story and I think the writers captured the emotional trauma of Mark perfectly. The PTSD and the addiction were not overdone like in some movies for effect, instead they played as a reminder of what physical damage can do to a person and how it can forever affect one’s life. The emotional journey and growth of Mark Hogancamp was one that was beautifully portrayed in “Welcome To Marwen”.
